Fei Wang – Networking and Cyber Security

2023 Playford Trust TAFESA Award
When I received the Playford Trust Award in Modern Industry and New Technologies in 2023, I was just beginning my journey into the world of IT. Having worked as a bank teller for five years and with only basic computer knowledge, deciding to switch careers in my mid-30s – while raising two young children – wasn’t an easy choice.
But receiving this award gave me the confidence to believe that it’s never too late to chase a dream and that women can thrive in STEM.
I have since completed my Certificate IV in IT Networking and am now completing my Diploma in IT Networking and Cloud Engineering. My study journey has been incredibly rewarding. in 2024, I won the Bronze Medal in the WorldSkills Australia Adelaide Regional Competition and became one of 15 MEGT Foundation Scholars. I also graduated from the Cisco MentorMe program, where I had the opportunity to learn from experienced industry professionals and strengthen my skills in networking and cybersecurity.
I’m now an ICT Helpdesk Officer at Henley High School with the SA Department for Education. It’s fulfilling and allows me to apply what I’ve learned and continue to grow in the IT field. Looking ahead, I plan to continue my studies by pursuing a Bachelor of IT (Networking and Cyber Security) and obtaining my Cisco CCNA certification.
The Playford Trust Scholarship was a true turning point in my journey – it provided not only financial support but also the confidence and encouragement to keep pushing forward. I’m deeply grateful for the Trust’s support and the opportunities it has opened for me.
