Our Partnership with the State Government and the resources sector
A partnership between the State Government, the resources sector and the Playford Trust will provide $2 million in scholarships for students enrolling in mining and petroleum engineering at the University of Adelaide over the term of the program.
This industry and government initiative announced in December 2019, commenced in 2020 and recognises the growing demand nationally for mining and petroleum engineers.
A total of 20 two-year scholarships will be awarded annually over a five-year period. For each industry-funded scholarship, the State Government will match a scholarship of equal value. Each scholarship is valued at $20,000 for the two-year term.
The scholarships are administered by the Playford Memorial Trust, which supports high-achieving South Australian students working in areas of strategic importance to the State.
The South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy (SACOME) is the peak industry association representing companies with interests and connections to the South Australian resources and energy sector. It has worked closely with the Trust and the Department of Energy and Mining to deliver this important initiative to address the skill shortage in an industry which is critical to the South Australian economy.
