Our Partnership with the State Government and the resources sector
A new partnership between the State Government, the resources sector and the Playford Trust will provide $500,000 in scholarships over the term of the program for Bachelor of Engineering students in 3rd or 4th year studying a core engineering discipline with the option to specialise in mining or energy resources.
This latest agreement follows a previous initiative which ran from 2020 to 2025, recognising the growing demand nationally for mining, petroleum and energy resources engineers.
From 2026 up to ten scholarships will be awarded annually over a five-year period. Each scholarship is valued at $10,000 with four being funded by the State Government and the remainder by industry partners.
The scholarships are administered by the Playford Memorial Trust, which supports high-achieving South Australian students working in areas of strategic importance to the State.
The South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy (SACOME) is the peak industry association representing companies with interests and connections to the South Australian resources and energy sector. It has worked closely with the Trust and the Department for Energy and Mining to deliver this important initiative to address the skill shortage in an industry which is critical to the South Australian economy.
