‘Excellence in Agriculture/Horticulture’ Scholarship

The Playford Trust in partnership with the Show Society Foundation is offering one (1) scholarship for a student ready to enter their second or third year of an undergraduate science-related degree in subjects contributing to the advancement of agriculture in South Australia. The scholarship is valued at $5000 for one year.

Study areas may include Agriculture, Food and Wine, Agricultural Science, Animal Behaviour, Soil Science, Food Technology, as well as Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology (Botany) and other subjects of importance to the agriculture industry.

Courses may include but are not limited to:

  • Adelaide University – Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science (Animal Science), Bachelor of Viticulture and Oneology, Bachelor of Food and Nutrition Science
  • Flinders University – Bachelor of Science (Animal Behaviour)
  • University of South Australia – Bachelor of Environmental Science, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Nutrition and Food Sciences.

Through this scholarship, the Show Society Foundation is contributing towards the education of future custodians and decision makers of South Australia’s primary industry and the continued success and future growth within all fields of Primary Industry within Australia.

 

 

Selection Criteria

Students about to enter their second or third year of a science related course at one of South Australia’s public universities, where the student is wanting to target a career in the agriculture sector e.g. food and animal production, plus supporting sciences and technologies, are encouraged to apply.

The Trust, together with a nominee of the Show Society Foundation, will consider all applications and make a recommendation.

The panel’s decison will be based on the following:

  • The applicant must reside in South Australia and satisfy one of the following options:
    • Australian Citizen;
    • Australian Permanent Resident; or
    • Australian Permanent Resident with Humanitarian Visa.
  • Students showing potential for high achievement with an excellent academic record.
  • Students of good character with preference given to those displaying leadership potential.
  • Students intending to spend a significant part of their career in South Australia or be likely to provide a benefit to the State.

Applications should be supported by an academic referee providing comments about the student’s achievements, character, and leadership potential.
