First year to Honours Minerals Industry Scholarship

Playford Trust Minerals Efficiency ESG Scholarship
The Playford Trust, in collaboration with CEEC International Limited (CEEC), is offering one (1) Minerals Industry scholarship for 2025.
CEEC is a global, not-for-profit organisation that promotes eco-efficient and sustainable practices in the resources sector through knowledge sharing, collaboration, and technology innovation. Its priority areas are critical minerals production, sustainability in resources, water management, waste reduction, tailings management, energy reduction and eco-efficiency.
The scholarship is valued at $10,000 for one year and is available to outstanding students currently enrolled in any of the following fields at one of South Australia’s public universities:
- Geoscience or other Science;
- Mining Engineering;
- Chemical Engineering (Mineral Processing);
- Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering;
- Environmental Engineering.
The Scholarship is available in any of the following years of study:
- First year to Honours year in Sciences;
- First year to Fourth year in Mining Engineering;
- First year to Fourth year in Chemical Engineering (Mineral Processing);
- First year to Fourth year in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering; or
- First year to Fourth year in Environmental Engineering.
The scholarship is intended to assist students who have the potential to become leaders in the minerals industry and who demonstrate wide-ranging abilities, good communication skills, organisation skills and who have the potential to become good managers. Applicants who are involved in student and community activities will demonstrate some or all these attributes.
Selection Criteria
Students enrolled in or, for first year studies, considering enrolment in, first year to fourth year studies in the areas of Sciences, Geology, Engineering, Metallurgy and Environmental engineering are encouraged to apply.
A panel with representatives from the Playford Trust and CEEC will make the final selection.
The panel’s decison will be based on the following:
- The applicant must reside in South Australia and satisfy one of the following options:
- Australian Citizen;
- Australian Permanent Resident; or
- Australian Permanent Resident with Humanitarian Visa.
- Students should not concurrently hold any other major scholarship, although this does not preclude submission of an application.
- Students showing potential for high achievement with an excellent academic record, and an interest in, and awareness of, the Australian Mining Industry are eligible to apply.
- Students should demonstrate an interest in, or have major studies or research project relevant to, the minerals industry.
- Students of good character with preference given to those displaying leadership potential.
- Students intending to spend a significant part of their career in South Australia or be likely to provide a benefit to the State.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate knowledge/understanding of ESG principles and the impacts of the resources sector – both positive and negative – on the environment and the host communities.
Applications should be supported by an academic referee providing comments about the student’s achievements, character, and leadership potential.
