Our Partnership with the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden.

The Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden, in Port Augusta, was established in 1993 to research, conserve and promote Australia’s arid zone flora, and is an initiative of the Port Augusta City Council.

The Garden is set on 200 hectares and is a tourism drawcard for Port Augusta and the Spencer Gulf region. Featuring thousands of plants from areas receiving 250mm or less of rainfall, it is also home to more than 150 bird species, as well as reptiles and mammals. It features a cafe and quality gift and plant shop and also has a plant nursery on site.

The Playford Trust recognises the importance of supporting trainees in regional Australia. With the help of a long term donor, the Trust was pleased to assist in funding a trainee, Ryan Hayward, at the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden during 2013 and 2014 and Matt Hosking in 2015.
