Located 560km north of Adelaide, BHP’s Olympic Dam is one of the world’s most significant deposits of copper, gold, silver and uranium. Olympic Dam includes underground and surface operations and operates a fully integrated processing facility from ore to metal. The underground mine is made up of more than 450km of underground roads and tunnels, with ore hauled by an automated train system to crushing, storage and hoisting facilities. On the surface, the metallurgical facility includes a grinding circuit, hydrometallurgical plant incorporating solvent extraction circuits for copper and uranium, a copper smelter, a copper refiner and a recovery circuit for precious metals.
