Our Partnership with Nyrstar
Nyrstar is a global multi-metals business, with a market leading position in zinc and lead, and growing positions in other base and precious metals. The company was formed in October 2007, from the smelting assets of Zinifex (Australia) and Umicore (Belgium) as the second largest global zinc smelting company producing in excess of one million tonnes of zinc product annually.
Nyrstar has smelting operations in Australia (Port Pirie and Hobart), The Netherlands (Budel), Belgium (Balen/Overpelt), France (Auby), The United States of America (Clarksville, Tennessee) and Norway (Høyanger). It also operates four mines in The United States of America (Mid and Eastern Tennessee) and Canada (Myra Falls, British Columbia and Langlois, Quebec).
Nyrstar Port Pirie is the largest single stream primary lead smelter in the world and produces refined commodity grade lead and lead alloys, zinc oxide fume, copper cathode, silver and gold dore, sulphuric acid and other byproduct metals. Nyrstar Port Pirie has recently undergone a A$660m site upgrade to improve its environmental performance and increase its flexibility to treat different feeds and develop into a multi-metal production facility.
