Regional Science & Engineering Scholarships

The Playford Trust seeks to assist outstanding students

The Playford Trust seeks to assist outstanding students from regional and rural South Australia who intend to study science or engineering (i.e. Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Biology) subjects at undergraduate level at one of the three South Australian universities.  Four awards of $4 000 are available for students entering their first year of their university course. These special scholarships are to be directed to promising science students who have to overcome the practical and financial disadvantages associated with having their home base located in regional and rural South Australia.  The intention is to assist students with the additional expenses involved in studying in Adelaide, remote from the normal level of family support.

The Selection Criteria

  • Nominees must be South Australian residents with their family base in regional and rural areas of the State.
  • Nominees must show potential for high achievement with an excellent secondary level academic record.  Allowance can be made for practical and other disadvantages due to remoteness from Adelaide.
  • Nominees should be of good character and preference should be given to students who display leadership potential.

Timely advice on the availability of these scholarships will be sent out to secondary schools in regional and rural areas to prompt the nomination process each year.  Nominations should take the form of a two-page submission which addresses each of the selection criteria.  Disclosure of any other awards or scholarships held by the nominee is required.
