Members of the Playford Memorial Trust Inc.

The eleven current Commitee Members, under the Chairman Hon. David Wotton, bring extensive experience from a range of sectors and provide their services without fee.

The Hon. David Wotton CHAIRMAN

The Hon David Wotton entered politics as the Member for Heysen in 1975. He served as Minister for Environment & Planning in the Tonkin Government and as Minister for Environment & Natural Resources, Family & Community Services and Ageing and later as Deputy Speaker and Chairman of Committees in the Brown/Olsen Government. He retired from politics in 2002 having served for 27 years. He currently serves on a number of boards and community organizations and was appointed Chairman of the Playford Memorial Trust in 2003.

 

The Hon. Don Hopgood AO DEPUTY CHAIRMAN

The Hon Donald (Don) Hopgood AO B.A. (Hons.) Ph.D B.Th. worked as a secondary school teacher and university tutor before being elected to the South Australian Parliament in 1970. Don served in parliament for over twenty years, holding various ministerial portfolios including development and mines, education, environment, water, emergency services, and health. Don was Deputy Premier for six years between 1985 and 1992. Between 1997 – 1999 Don was the Moderator of the Uniting Church S.A. Synod.

Recently Don has been teaching courses at the College for Seniors and the University of the Third Age, has been researching the history of jazz in South Australia and providing hospital chaplaincy service.

 

Mrs Mary Walters PUBLIC OFFICER

Mary Walters.........Public officer   LLB, GAICD 
Mary was a partner in  Phillips Fox  between 1984 -1989 and then a Consultant to that firm between  1989-1994 .  She became manager of the - Litigation Assistance Fund in 1994, a position she still holds.

Mary has been Executive Officer of the Law Foundation of SA Inc  since 1994.
She was a Governor of St Andrew's Hospital between 1994 – 2003 and then a Trustee of St Andrew's Hospital Foundation Inc since 2002.  Mary is currently the Chair of this Foundation.
She was a Member of Archbishop's Appeal Events committee 2003-2007 and Deputy member of the Nurses Board of South Australia between 1995 -1999.

 

The Hon. Dean Brown AO

The Hon Dean Brown AO is a former Premier of South Australia. He was in Parliament for 27 years and held numerous Ministerial Portfolios.

Currently Dean Brown is the Premier’s Special Adviser on Drought and is the River Murray Community Liaison Manager for the South Australian Government.

Dean’s education and background is in agricultural research and management. His qualifications include a Master of Rural Science from the University of New England and a Post-graduate Fellowship Diploma in Business Administration.

 

He is a Board Member of Foodbank SA,  and the Heritage Foundation of the University of Adelaide.Dean is Chairman of Hillgrove Resources Ltd.,  Intermet Resources Ltd, and a Director of Scantech Ltd.  He is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

 

 

Professor Don Bursill AM

Don  Bursill AM has 40 years in the water industry, 17 years as Chief Scientist for SA Water.  He was CEO of the Co-operative Research Centre for Water Quality and Treatment for 11 years and Deputy Chair of the Board of the Global Water Research Coalition which is an alliance of major national water research agencies.

Don is an Adjunct Professor at the University of SA and chairs the Water Quality Advisory Committee of the National Health and Medical Research Council. He is President of the South Australian Branch of the Australian Water Association and a member of the South Australian Premier’s Climate Change Council.

 

Awards include a Member of the Order of Australia, an Honorary Doctorate from UniSA, a CSIRO Medal for water research.

 

Mrs Susie Herzberg

Susie Herzberg  has worked as an urban and environmental planner with government, the private sector and the University of Adelaide.  Susie is a past Chairman of the  Board of the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium, and has served on a number of Boards including  the South Australian Housing Trust, Patawalonga Catchment Management Board, KESAB,  City-State Forum and State Cycling Council.  Susie is a Past President of the Australian Institute of Urban Studies (SA) and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Currently Susie manages Manyara Vineyard and is a director of Bomlitz P/L.  She is on the Council of Nature Foundation SA and a member of the SA Wine Industry Association Environment Committee.

 

Mrs Rosina Hislop

Rosina Hislop  is a Partner at Ernst & Young and brings fifteen years experience in financial reporting, audit and risk management. Rosina is an advisor to Boards and management of several large public sector organisations in South Australia. Rosina has a particular interest in the education sector and is also a Board member of Seymour College.  Rosina relocated to Adelaide from London with her family three years ago.


Professor Caroline McMillen

Professor Caroline McMillen is Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice President: Research and Innovation at the University of South Australia.  Caroline graduated with a BA (Hons) and Doctrate in Philosophy at Oxford University before completing her medical degree at the University of Cambridge.  She is currently a member of the Automotive Industry Innovation Council and the CRC for Advanced Automotive Technology, Innovate SA, the Premier’s Climate Change Council and the Resources Industry Development Board of South Australia. In 2008 she served as Chair of the NCRIS Expert Sub Committee on Promoting and Maintaining Good Health and was an invited participant in the Health Stream of the Australia 2020 Summit.  She was also a member of the Prime Minister's Science, Engineering and Innovation Council (PMSEIC) Working Group on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders focusing on maternal, and perinatal health. She has served for extended periods as Chair of ARC and NHMRC Grant Review Panels.


Mr Dean Standish

Dean Standish has worked in the accounting profession continuously since 1961.  In 1968 he became a member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.   The major portion of his professional life has been as a partner in a medium size 3 partner practice in Adelaide This partnership extended from 1976-2006   In 2006 the practice was merged with HLB Mann Judd (SA)  and Dean has continued to work as a consultant to the merged practices.

The major focus of his career has been small business and audit.  Dean has been a member of the Rotary Club of Mitcham for approximately 20 years and has held a variety of positions at both Club and District level.

 

 

Mr Danny Watson

Danny Watson is a retired Sharebroker and was Chairman of Day Cutten  Ltd prior to its acquisition by The Macquarie Bank Group.

He is currently a Trustee/Director of NGS Super-an Industry Super Fund concentrating on The Non-Government School sector, Chairman of The Mary Potter Foundation ,and is a member of the Investment committee of  Minda  Inc.

Danny is a member of a number of industry bodies and serves as a panel member of the Disciplinary Tribunal of The Australian Securities Exchange .

 

 

Mr Keith Yates

Keith Yates is a science graduate majoring in geology who retired in 2007 after over 40 years in the mining industry exploring for minerals in Australia and overseas. He is a founding director of Adelaide Resources Limited which was listed in 1996 and which conducts minerals exploration in a number of Australian states, including South Australia.

 

Keith is Chairman on the South Australian Resources Industry Development Board advising the government on mining matters. He has lived in South Australia for 40 years and is keenly interested in the education of young people and the benefits that their subsequent employment can bring to the State.
